As one of only 4 Premier League Cricket Clubs in central London, and the only one south of the River Thames, Blackheath Cricket Club plays a vital role in serving a wide and diverse community.
The Club takes great pride in having a youth section that not only fully reflects our local demographics, but one that is also successful both on the pitch and in terms of producing and supporting young players to progress into representative cricket.
Under the guidance of our Youth Cricket Coordinator and former 1st XI captain Chris Swadkin, a team of small but knowledgeable coaches now welcome over 150 young members annually.
Blackheath’s Youth Teams have become serial winners of North Kent Junior League competitions and in the last six years the Club has represented Kent in National Cups as either U13 or U15 champions no less than seven times. In 2008, the Blackheath U15 team led by Richard Fleming saw off competition from thousands of cricket clubs across the UK to lift the National Cup for the first time in the Club’s history.
The Club also supports young players with personal aspirations in the game and over 50 junior members represent their district cricket teams annually. Around 20% of these district cricketers go on to make County age-group squads and in the last 5 years alone, 4 of the Club’s young players have been awarded professional contracts.
As well as good quality cricket coaching, these achievements come about through an equal commitment to mentoring and support for our young players. The Club also commits a great deal of time and effort to ensure young players are diligently placed and monitored in senior cricket as they reach their mid-teens.
If you have an enquiry or would like your child to join the Blackheath Cricket Club youth Section then please either contact the appropriate age group manager from the list below, or our Youth Coordinator Chris Swadkin on firstname.lastname@example.org .
